Day 1: Arrival – Paro, Bhutan (2,320 m)

Fly to Bhutan via Druk Air. The flight into Paro is one of the most spectacular mountain flights in the world, offering a constantly changing panorama of some of the highest peaks on earth.

Upon arrival at Paro Airport, meet your guide and transfer to your hotel for check-in. In the afternoon, enjoy sightseeing around Paro, including a visit to the National Museum, Ta Dzong, which houses religious relics, historic artifacts, and traditional handicrafts, providing a perfect introduction to Bhutan’s rich culture and heritage.

After breakfast, embark on a hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery, also known as the Tiger’s Nest. The trail is well-defined and takes approximately 2 hours uphill, offering stunning views of the Paro Valley below.

Perched on a sheer cliff 900 meters above the valley floor, Taktsang Monastery is a majestic symbol of Bhutanese Buddhism. Legend says that Guru Rimpoche flew here on the back of a tigress in the 8th century when he brought the teachings of Buddhist Dharma to Bhutan. The site offers not only spiritual insight but also breathtaking panoramic views that make the trek unforgettable.

After breakfast, drive to Punakha via the scenic Dochula Pass. On a clear day, the pass offers panoramic views of the majestic Himalayan peaks, making it a perfect stop for photography and to admire the natural beauty of Bhutan.

Upon arrival in Punakha, visit the famous Punakha Dzong, built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. Strategically situated between the Pho Chu (Male River) and Mo Chu (Female River), this dzong served as the seat of the Bhutanese government until the reign of the second king. Its magnificent architecture, intricate woodwork, and historic significance make it one of Bhutan’s most treasured landmarks.

After breakfast, drive to the picturesque valley of Gangtey, one of Bhutan’s most scenic destinations. En route, enjoy sightseeing in the Wangdiphodrang Valley and visit the Wangdiphodrang Dzong, built in 1638.

Legend has it that while searching for a site to construct the dzong, four ravens were seen flying in four directions, considered an auspicious sign symbolizing the spread of Buddhism to the four corners of the world. This magnificent dzong is strategically located at the confluence of the Mo Chu and Tang Chu rivers, showcasing Bhutanese architectural brilliance against a stunning natural backdrop.

Continue the drive to Gangtey, a tranquil valley known for its beautiful landscapes and traditional Bhutanese culture.

After breakfast, drive from Gangtey to Bumthang via Trongsa, enjoying the scenic mountain roads along the way. En route, visit the magnificent Trongsa Dzong, considered one of the most impressive dzongs in Bhutan. Built in its present form in 1644 by Chogyal Minjur Tempa, the dzong served as a strategic administrative and religious center. It was later enlarged at the end of the 17th century by Desi Tenzin Rabgay.

Trongsa Dzong is also the ancestral home of Bhutan’s royal family, and the first two hereditary kings ruled the country from this historic site. You will also visit Ta Dzong, an ancient watchtower offering panoramic views of the valley and surrounding landscapes.

Continue the drive to Bumthang, a cultural and spiritual heart of Bhutan, known for its beautiful valleys, monasteries, and traditional villages.

After breakfast, embark on a day hike to Ngang Lhakhang, a serene and historic temple perched about 100 meters above the Bumthang valley. The hike takes approximately three hours, following the course of the Bumthang River from Thangbi Gompa.

Ngang Lhakhang, located in the small region of Ngang Yul (‘Swan Land’), is a site of historical and spiritual significance. It was visited by Guru Rinpoche, the revered Buddhist master, and later constructed in the 15th century by Lama Namkha Samdrup, a contemporary of the famous treasure-revealer Pema Lingpa.

Enjoy the tranquil surroundings, panoramic views of the valley, and the rich cultural heritage of this sacred site. Return to Bumthang for dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

  • National Memorial Chorten (1974): Built in honour of the third King, Jigme Dorji Wangchuk, it is a striking symbol of Bhutanese Buddhist architecture.

  • Kuensel Phodrang Viewpoint: Home to the tallest Buddha statue in Bhutan, offering panoramic views of the Thimphu valley.

  • Takin Preserve Centre: Discover Bhutan’s national animal, the Takin, in its natural habitat.

  • Dupthop Lhakhang: One of the few surviving nunneries in Bhutan, reflecting the country’s rich monastic tradition.

  • Weekend Market: Held every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, this vibrant market is a feast for the senses. Locals dressed in colorful traditional attire gather here to buy, sell, and barter, creating a lively atmosphere reminiscent of bustling street markets around the world.

  • Handmade Paper Factory: Visit a traditional paper-making workshop, where artisans continue the centuries-old Bhutanese craft of producing handmade paper, a practice that dates back to the 8th century. Witness the entire process and learn about this integral part of Bhutanese heritage.

The rest of the day is at leisure to explore Thimphu at your own pace. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, visit Cheri Goemba (Cheri Dorji Dhen), a historic monastery built in 1620 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the unifier of Bhutan. Cheri Goemba is where the first monastic body in Bhutan was established.

The monastery is set in a serene environment, offering a wonderful opportunity to enjoy nature and spot a variety of bird species, including:

Privacy Policy

We respect your privacy and ensure that your personal data is kept confidential and used only for booking purposes. We will not disclose or sell your information to third parties.

Trip Booking

A contract is formed when you receive a written confirmation after paying the deposit. Check your booking details carefully and notify us of any errors. The name on your booking must match your passport exactly.

Deposit Requirements

A 50% deposit is required at the time of booking, with the remaining balance due 60 days before departure. Payment can be made via bank transfer or PayNow.

Cancellation Policy

Over 180 days before departure: No charge

180-90 days: 10% charge

90-30 days: 30% charge

30-15 days: 50% charge

15-7 days: 80% charge

Less than 7 days: No refund

No refunds for unused services or voluntary trip cancellations. We recommend purchasing trip cancellation insurance.

Health and Fitness

You must assess your health and fitness before booking. Inform us of any pre-existing medical conditions. We are not responsible for any issues arising from medical conditions or inability to complete the trip.

Travel Insurance

Adequate travel insurance covering accidents, medical expenses, and emergency evacuation is mandatory. We recommend comprehensive coverage for all aspects of the trip.

Itinerary Changes

The itinerary may change due to unforeseen factors such as weather, medical issues, or flight delays. Brothers Team reserves the right to modify the schedule.
