Day 1: Singapore – Paro – Thimphu (Altitude: 2,320 m) | Meals: Lunch / Dinner

Depart from Singapore for Paro, Bhutan. Upon arrival at Paro Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide and transferred to Thimphu, the capital city. Check in at your hotel and enjoy lunch.

In the afternoon, visit Buddha Point (Kunstel Phodrang), home to a gigantic Shakyamuni Buddha statue built on the mountains overlooking Thimphu. The statue contains over 1,000 smaller Buddha statues and offers panoramic views of the Thimphu Valley.

Next, visit the Takin Zoo, a mini wildlife reserve dedicated to Bhutan’s national animal, the Takin, and explore the unique fauna of the region.

Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay in Thimphu.

After breakfast, drive to Punakha, passing through the scenic Dochula Pass. This mountain pass offers panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges, enhanced by the presence of 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens, built by the Queen. On clear days, the snow-capped Himalayan peaks create a breathtaking backdrop.

Upon arrival in Punakha, enjoy a short hike to Chimi Lhakhang (Temple). This gentle walk takes you through charming farmhouses and expansive rice fields. The monastery is dedicated to the Divine Madman, Drukpa Kunley, and is famous for its unique spiritual significance.

Check in at your hotel, enjoy dinner, and overnight stay in Punakha.

After breakfast, embark on a day excursion to Phobjikha Valley, a scenic, bowl-shaped glacial valley located on the western slopes of the Black Mountains, bordering Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park.

Phobjikha is renowned as a wildlife haven, most famously as the wintering ground for large flocks of black-necked cranes. The valley is also home to diverse wildlife, including muntjacs (barking deer), wild boars, sambar deer, serows, Himalayan black bears, leopards, and red foxes, which inhabit the surrounding hills.

The Nakey Chhu River drains the marshy valley, eventually flowing into the lower reaches of the Punakha Tsang Chhu, adding to the valley’s serene charm.

Return to your accommodation in Phobjikha (or nearby), enjoy dinner, and overnight stay.

After breakfast, drive back to Thimphu (approx. 129 km, 4 hours). Upon arrival, visit the Memorial Chorten, a prominent Tibetan-style stupa and one of the most visible religious landmarks in the capital, cherished by locals for its spiritual significance.

Next, stop at a traditional handmade paper factory, where you can observe the centuries-old process of making locally crafted paper, a unique Bhutanese art form.

After lunch, visit Simple Bhutan – The Living Museum, where you can immerse yourself in Bhutanese traditions. Experience the national sport of archery, taste local beverages including Ara (a traditional rice wine) and butter tea, and enjoy interactive demonstrations that highlight the country’s rich culture.

Return to your hotel in Thimphu for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, drive to Paro. On the way, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most sacred temples, famous for its serene setting and historical significance. Interestingly, it was also the site of the wedding ceremony of Hong Kong actor Tony Leung.

Continue to Paro Valley and explore Paro Dzong (Rinpung Dzong), a magnificent 14th-century fortress that serves as both a monastery and the administrative center of the district. Overlooking the valley is Ta Dzong, the watchtower built in 1649 to protect the dzong. In 1968, it was converted into the National Museum of Bhutan, housing an impressive collection of antique Thangkas, textiles, weapons, armor, household objects, and various natural and historic artifacts.

Check in at your hotel in Paro, enjoy dinner, and overnight stay.

After breakfast, take a short drive to Satsam Chorten, the starting point for the hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest). The trail involves a 2-hour walk to the viewpoint, offering scenic forested paths and glimpses of fluttering prayer flags along the way.

Tiger’s Nest is Bhutan’s most famous monastery, perched dramatically on the edge of a 1,200-meter cliff. According to legend, Guru Rinpoche flew to this site on the back of a tigress and meditated here, giving the monastery its popular name. The breathtaking location and unique architecture make it an iconic symbol of Bhutan, admired by visitors from around the world.

Return to Paro for dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

After breakfast, enjoy some free time for last-minute shopping or relaxation. Later, transfer to Paro Airport for your onward flight, concluding your memorable journey through the Land of Happiness, Bhutan.
